"Intelligent and thoughtful...Meaty...Easy to read..." A Challenge for Modern Minds by Pravrajika Vivekaprana Trying to encapsulate Pravrajika Vivekaprana's vastness in a book or a review seems rather like trying to stuff a very reluctant genie back into a bottle. Her sweep is universal, her language modern, clear, and direct. Yet readers will find the lectures in this collection convey a sense of the speaker's inner depth, made evident by her ability to articulate what is common to everyone. Concepts leap from every page, grabbing attention. "Yes!" the reader is likely to nod in assent, 'I might have said that, had I thought about it." The first chapter Eastern Religion in a Western Culture, goes straight to the heart of the spiritual quest. The table of contents lists other very pointed, relevant topics. The superb editing of Edith D. Tipple, leaves you panting for more. The primary criticism, if there is one, is that, in keeping with her usual style, Vivekaprana is wonderfully good at articulating the problem, excellent at convincing one that there is a solution, while leaving it entirely up to the reader to find the path to that solution. Perhaps, however, it is better this way. Having instilled the enthusiasm to consciously undertake the spiritual journey, she gives impetus to the inner urge that proves the adage when the seeker is ready, the teaching will come.
